WILDCAT of THE WEEK
Science Teacher at WBMSHS
What is your educational background?
Graduate of WBMSHS, Bachelors of Science, Bridgewater State University, Masters of Science, Northeastern University
What made you choose teaching as a career?
I love science. Having worked in the field for 12+ years, I missed having the opportunity to see the love for science that students have and how excited they get about learning new and intriguing concepts. It is similar to Christmas morning, when as a parent, your enjoyment and satisfaction comes from watching your children's excitement, joy and exuberance.
Can you describe a favorite teaching moment?
I have so many but if I had to pick one... it would be during a chemistry lesson where students were learning how to calculate the amount of reactants and products in a reaction, (called stoichiometry), and a student who had been plugging away SO hard all year and had to put SO much effort in, had an "ah ha" moment in class and was SO excited, that she burst out with, "YES I GET IT!!!". She was so proud and confident. To be able to witness that transformation from "I don't get it, I can't do it" to her helping others who were struggling, it was inspiring.
What do you do for fun?
I like to read, knit, sew and plan our family road trips.
What are your favorite foods?
Sushi, buffalo chicken dip, fruit slices
What kind of music do you enjoy?
I don't like just one type of music. I enjoy artists from multiple genres, such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Taylor Swift, Bill Withers, SugarHill Gang, Rascall Flatts, Jimmy Buffett, Bon Jovi, etc.
What movies do you like?
I don't have just one type of movie that I like either. Some of my favorites include: Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail, The Princess Bride, Braveheart, Pride and Prejudice, and any/every MARVEL movie!
What books do you enjoy?
This is a theme... I don't have a "type" of book either...I enjoy reading sappy romances, mysteries, science fiction, science non-fiction, "classics" and "best sellers".
What is your favorite way to spend a weekend?
Due to my husband's schedule as a police officer, we only have one weekend off together as a family every six weeks, so those weekends are my favorite! We go out to breakfast as a family and then we do fun "mystery rides" which could consist of going to the zoo, a nice playground, exploring our local conservation or state parks. We close out the nights with one of many silly family activities like our "Pope Dance Parties" while everyone helps cook and prepare for dinner.
What do you love about teaching in West Bridgewater?
The students in West Bridgewater are the absolute BEST part of my job. I have had the opportunity to get to know so many great young adults in this town. I have been blessed with the opportunity to see students grow and change from sophomores to seniors and having the ability to witness and/or be a part of those transformations is humbling.
A fun fact about you?
I spent last year renovating a vintage 1960 Scotsman trailer, "Rosie" after "Rosie the Riveter", that we use for all of our family road trips.
