Adequate Yearly Progress
Fall 2011
Dear Parent or Guardian:
As required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), I am pleased to announce that the West Bridgewater district and school report cards are now available for your review. The report card contains important information about enrollment and educator data, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) tests, the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) tests, and whether or not our schools are making adequate yearly progress (AYP) to meet the goal of all students reaching proficiency on statewide MCAS testing in Mathematics and English Language Arts by 2014, a fundamental goal of NCLB.
In accordance with NCLB, schools that do not make sufficient progress toward this goal are identified with a NCLB Accountability Status for ‘improvement’, ‘corrective action’, or ‘restructuring’. I am pleased to report that all of the West Bridgewater Schools had a very high performance rating in ELA and either a very high or high performance rating in Mathematics. Although the MSHS Mathematics performance was also high, there were no significant changes in the MCAS scores in one or more student subgroups for 2011, and therefore, the school is in improvement status. The Administration and Faculty at each school have analyzed the 2011 assessment date and have implemented action plans to address any identified areas of need.
Hard copies of the reports are available below, at the Superintendent’s office and at each school. We are happy to help you if you have further questions about how to interpret these report cards, and we encourage you to become involved in our continued quest to increase student achievement by joining the strategic planning committee, a school council, or by simply volunteering in your school. Please feel free to call any of the Principals or me directly if you need additional information.
Sincerely yours,
Patricia W. Oakley, Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools
