MSHS Guidance Department

Welcome to the West Bridgewater Middle-Senior High School Guidance home page. Our staff includes 2 high school counselors, a middle school counselor, an adjustment counselor, and a secretary.Our goal is to help you steer your child towards a fulfilling and rewarding middle/high school experience and beyond.Our dedicated counselors will personally meet with students individually and/or in groups to discuss issues that relate to their personal and academic careers.

We visit the classroom on a regular basis.We meet with students for a variety of reasons including course selection process, review of student schedule, discussion of progress report and report cards, summer school, vocational school placement, personal counseling, college and career planning, conflict resolution, and problem-solving strategies.Please feel free to contact the guidance department at any time should you have questions and/or concerns.

College Admissions Seminar-March 22

College Admissions Seminar for Parents of Juniors

Date: Thursday March 22, 2012

Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Location: High School Cafeteria

 

 This seminar, sponsored by MEFA (Massachusetts Education Financing Authority), will include the following topics:

 

-Current college admissions trends

-Stages of the college admissions process

-College entrance tests

-Preparing for the essay, interview and campus visit

-Financial aid basics

-MEFA’s free resources for families

ASLP Program

Applications are now available in the upstairs guidance office for 8th grade students:

ASLP Program Objective: To provide a 3-week, college-like residential experience that emphasizes leadership development and project oriented instruction in STEM areas and the humanities for high achieving students from the Cape Cod Collaborative (CCC) or North River Collaborative (NRC) member districts.

Dates: Sunday, June 24 – Friday, July 13, 2011 (weekday program; not in session on July 4th)

Week 1

Monday, May 7:  Chemistry, 8 AM   and Environmental Science, 8 AM

Wednesday, May 9:  Calculus AB, 8 AM

Thursday, May 10:  English Literature & Composition, 8 AM

Friday, May 11:  US History , 8 AM and European History, 12 Noon

Week 2

Monday, May 14:  Biology, 8 AM and Physics B, 12 Noon

Wednesday, May 16:  English Language & Composition, 8 AM and Statistics, 12 Noon

NOTE: The fee for each exam is $87. Students will be notified where to report for the exams and when to bring payment to the guidance office.  The students are responsible for exam payment once the exams have been ordered.  All students who take an AP course must also take the exam. No exceptions.  If a student refuses to take the AP exam, he/she must take a final exam instead.  The student will also not get the AP credit on the transcript and the course will be changed from AP to Honors level.  Colleges will be promptly notified that the student is no longer enrolled in the AP course.
