Did you know you already use French words every day?  And we’re not just talking about the obvious ones like restaurant and à la carte. We’re talking about essential, everyday vocabulary that you can pick up from English and use in your French language studies. It’s all thanks to cognates. Cognates are similar words between two languages, and they can be a goldmine for language learners—especially English speakers learning French. It’s no secret that languages often exchange words. But French and English take this to a new level in the sheer number of words they share.

That being said, we encourage you to check your email right now to test your knowledge of cognates with our Google quiz. High scorers for each day will be entered into a drawing at the end of the week to win a $25 Amazon card! Powder Puff practices will be held Monday November 4, Tuesday November 5 and Wednesday November 6th during power block.

Any student interested in working with a fifth grade boy with his reading, please contact the office for details.
