Elementary students should read, or be read to, EVERY DAY. To help keep reading fun and consistent, students entering kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to participate in WB’s Summer of Stories Reading Challenge! Students simply record the minutes they spend reading each day. Reading counts whether students read independently, listen to an audiobook, or are read to by a family member. There are no assigned books or grade-level reading requirements. Instead, I encourage everyone to read books they truly enjoy. Read titles by favorite authors or from a series, read books recommended by friends or family, read stories connected to your hobbies or travel plans, or even read the books that inspired movies. The goal is simple: just get your hands on titles that excite you, that are manageable to you, and READ. Simply track how many minutes you read each day! This year, we’re adding a fun twist — parents and teachers are invited to join the challenge too! Which team will log the most reading minutes this summer: Students, Parents, or Teachers? Can Team Students collectively out read Team Parents? Will Team Teachers outshine parents and students with routine reading by the pool or at the beach? Students, parents, and teachers are asked to return their work to their child(ren)’s classroom teacher during our first week back to school in September.
